Little steps done well regularly can make a whole world of difference! It’s time for us to take positive actions for the World Environment Day as the year 2010 resounds with a myriad of voices to save our planet with the theme “Many Species. One Planet. One Future.”

International Academy for Intercultural Development (IAID) and the Friends of the Environment Centre (FEC) in Qatar strengthens its commitment to increase awareness on environmental concerns by organizing a series of events to celebrate the World Environment Day 2010, in association with UNESCO-Qatar, Faber Castell, Qatar Photographic Society, iloveqatar.net and Virginia Commonwealth University. This initiative is taken under the auspices of Dr. Saif Ali Al Hajari, Chairman of FEC.

Organized by IAID, Celebrations in Qatar forges on to its fourth year of getting the community together to express thoughts and action steps for saving the environment through the Arts, Dance and Music.

Workshops, contests and performances are lined up starting 28 May to 26 June 2010. Guidelines and registration forms are just a click away at www.iloveqatar.net/wed2010 for everyone!

28-29 May kicks off with Painting Workshops for 200 shortlisted entries for the painting contest. In association with the Virginia Commonwealth University Qatar, participants will learn the basics of drawing and painting at the IAID premises.

29 May, Photography Workshops follows on the second day with the Qatar Photographic Society @ The Cultural Village. Interested participants can register at www.iloveqatar.net/wed2010

04 May - 05 June, Photography Contest encourages the public to capture the positive aspects of the environment with photographs, printed on an A4 size. Age categories are: 14 to 18 years, 19-24 years, 25 and above.

04 - 05 June, Painting Contest and WED Film Screening at the IAID premises will schedule participants in time slots allotted for each category: 4-6 years, 7-9 years, 10-12 years, 13-15 years, 16-18 years and Adults.
26 June, Prize-Awarding Ceremony/Painting & Photography Exhibitions at the Qatar National Theatre will feature the winning entries with prizes, recognition, awards and performances by IAID artists and talents.

The year 2010 distinctly marks the world’s largest event for the environment with the WED Legacy Project where activities such as this can touch a critical environment project in the host country Rwanda. Visit http://www.unep.org/wed/2010/english/takeastand.asp and be counted!

It’s time to take action and be heard for WED 2010! For more information, call Secretariat at 432-0974 or visit us online at www.iloveqatar.net/wed2010.
