It was a scene from an Arabian fairy tale complete with Arabian music and a storyteller regaling guests with stories like Qays and Layla.

Sharq Village and Spa yesterday transformed its Al Dasha ballroom into a cozy scene made for small and large families to gather and partake in Iftar feast. Four VIP tents are put up in a corner, with lamps, carpets and colourful fawanees, which resulted into a souq-like area.

The hotel prepared five different Arabian-themed menus per night (on rotation) for its guests, as well as several stations like the shawarma station, salad station, purely-Arabian dessert station, a Falafel station, and a juice station that includes Jallab and Tamer Hindi, among others.

Sharq Village and Spa invited an ice cream man who prepared Arabian Ice Cream from scratch, a Vanilla Ice Cream with Pistachio, and a Jallab man went around the tables to fill the guests’ glasses with Jallab juice.

“We have made our design simpler this year but elegant and tasteful, respecting the traditions and culture of the country… We had fun conceptualizing the design,” said Hoss Vetry, Sharq Village and Spa’s general manager.

Vetry said part of the concept of their design was also suggested by the guests who spent Iftar and Suhoor at the hotel last year. “They gave us feedback, what they want… and we listened to what our guests had to say… We also did regional promotions throughout the year like the Iranian/Persian Food Festival, Moroccan Food Festival, etc., and we picked the best from all of that and offered it on our Ramadan menus… We want to make our guests feel at home.”

The hotel’s Ramadan Tent at the Al Dasha Ballroom is open from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., Iftar buffet at Al Liwan is open from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., the Shisha Diwan at Al Qareb is open from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The Ramadan Tent at Al Dasha will be opened to guests the entire month of Ramadan. The end of Ramadan is marked by the three-day Eid Al Fitr holiday, the “Festival of Breaking the Fast.” This is a joyous time, beginning with a special prayer, and accompanied by celebrations, festive meals and gift-giving.
