Folk music and flavours from Spain are being featured in a week-long Spanish Festival, which began on Tuesday at The Ritz-Carlton Doha.
The event, in association with the Spanish embassy and the Qatar National Hotel as well as the culinary team of the Ritz, is taking place at the Lagoon Restaurant. It will run until November 2.
International Spanish chef Ram?n Cantos Rodr?guez and La Tuna En Espa?a, a traditional Spanish entertainment group, are the highlights of the festival, an official said.
During the festival, chef Rodr?guez is introducing Spanish culinary favourites including tapas dishes, hot dishes such as ‘Albondigas’, Spanish meatballs, ‘Pixto Manchego’ Ratatouille, and ‘Calamarres a La Romana’ deep fried calamari with lemon, among other items.
La Tuna En Espa?a is from the University of Salamanca, the oldest and the most prestigious part of Spain. According to an official in the embassy, in 1212, under the patronage of the ruler Al Fonso VIII, La Tuna En Espa?a was first founded in Palencia and later moved to Salamanca.
‘Sopistas’, the original name of the musical group, represents their love for song and study. The group was traditionally made up of university students who dressed in authentic Spanish outfits playing classical songs of their country in exchange for money to cover their studies.
Current band members of La Tuna En Espa?a include Mariano Cobo Iturbe, Rafael Garc?a Santalla, César Navarro Llorente, Jes?s Cuadrado Pacho, Miguel ?ngel Luengo Mart?n, Jose Antonio Ros S?nchez, Estanislao S?nchez Izquierdo, Ra?l Francisco Velasco Presa, Antonio Balsera G?mez, Javier Mar?n S?nchez, Kota Utsude and Javier Ju?rez Alcalde.
“Our talented ladies and gentlemen along with our prestigious visitors from Spain, will surpass themselves in creating exciting culinary and cultural experiences to indulge our guests.” Ritz’ executive assistant manager for Food and Beverage Knut Becker said.
