The second Qatar Career Fair (QCF), under the patronage of the Heir Apparent H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, will be held from April 13 to 16 at the Doha International Exhibition Center, with the slogan, ‘Your future in your hands’.

The QCF is an annual event organised jointly by Qatar Foundation, Qatar Petroleum, Qatar University and The Ministry of Labour. The event was started to provide career opportunities to Qatari students and graduates and meet the demands of the labour market and facilitate Qatarisation across all sectors of the economy.

“Organising QCF comes in line with the objectives and plans of Qatar National Vision 2030,” said Rashid Al Naimi, president of the steering committee of Qatar Career Fair and vice president for administration at Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. “The vision objectives will be attained through fulfilling the needs of the generations of today and tomorrow in the sectors of development, training and education. This will also include assisting students to reach their potential and creating the appropriate environment to enhance their creativity and contribute to the prosperity of Qatar.”

Ahmad Al Mawlawi, acting president of administrative affairs in Qatar Petroleum, Dr Omar Al Ansari vice president of student affairs in Qatar University, Mohammed Al Marrikhi, assistant manpower office manager in the Ministry of Labour and Abdullah Al Mansoori, general manager of Qatar Career Fair, attended a press meet to announce the details of QCF 2009.

The second fair is expected to witness widespread and effective contributions from the government and private sectors to provide employment and training opportunities to students in Qatar. Al Naimi said Qatar Foundation looks forward to seeing the fair implement the state’s strategic policy in the field of Qatarisation. The fair this year has special significance owing to its adherence to Qatar Vision 2030, said Al Mansoori.

The fair will showcase 115 public and private sector companies categorised as Diamond, Pearl, Gold, Silver and Bronze exhibitors. The event venue will be divided into ‘villages’ based on the sectors represented — government, energy and industry, finance and business, education, health and sports.

Due to the overwhelming response to the first fair, this year’s event is expected to attract 20,000 to 30,000 visitors. The morning session on April 15 will be exclusive to women.

Pre-event activities include workshops and visits to educational institutions that aim at increasing awareness about the fair and its key role in helping Qatari youth make a career choice in a methodical manner.

As part of the fair, special courses, workshops and seminars on developing skills in writing CVs, giving job interviews and other employment-related subjects like work ethics, will be conducted.
