Description
This panel discusses the role of an artist in today’s society. It will explore different roles that artists assume, their interaction with the public, the roles of new technologies in communicating with the audiences, and the sense of public service and engagement with society. Has the model of an artist as a lonely creator changed and are there demands being made on the artists to become public figures, if not celebrities? To what extent are artists engaging with their audience and how? Do they feel a responsibility to contribute to their communities, or is it essential for them to work in isolation and remain distant, especially in our contemporary hyper-connected world?
