From two-time Academy award-winner and long-time collaborator with DFI, Asghar Farhadi comes A HERO, this year's Ajyal Opening Film and a much-anticipated MENA premiere. Winner of the Cannes 2021 Grand Prix. Award-winning, ‘A Hero’ by Asghar Farhadi, Academy Award winning director and a collaborator of Doha Film Institute (DFI) will get the ball rolling for the 9th edition of Ajyal Film Festival.

A Hero, an Academy Award-winning film directed by Asghar Farhadi, will open the Ajyal Film Festival this year. A total of 85 films from 44 countries will be screened in four locations, including the Doha Film Festival.

“Ajyal Film Festival returns with this year’s theme, “Press Play,” to move forward out of pause mode and rekindle people’s passion for play, exploration, and discovery through shared cultural experiences,” said Fatma Hassan Alremaihi, Festival Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Doha Film Institute.

The seven-day festival from November 7-13 will feature a diverse mix of virtual and in-person events including film screenings, interactive discussions, multi-media art exhibit, Qatar’s largest pop-culture event, Geekdom, and a drive-in cinema as part of a multisensory experience for all ages.

Katara Cultural Village plays host to our acclaimed opening night screening, compelling Made in Qatar programme, and select features and shorts this year. It may appear a simple story on the surface, the twists of fate unfold to create a rich tapestry of human (misbehavior and deep philosophical quandaries). A truly riveting tale of morality in the age of social media from two-time Academy award-winner and collaborator with Doha Film Institute, Asghar Farhadi.
